Well, how they got it all figured out I don’t know, and I’m not sure they ever have. 7 on 7 has been around for twenty-five years I think and Brownwood has qualified for state in twenty-four of those twenty-five years. That’s pretty good!

Now we’re to another year. Now they have all teams involved that about half of the teams play regular 7 on 7 and we play in what’s called Division II. That has to do only with enrollment – only on enrollment. Brownwood qualified every year until last year and now have qualified again this year.

The first year they had 7 on 7 it was won by a 5A or 6A team and no surprise there. The second year they had it one of the little schools, a 2A or 1A or something like that, won the whole cotton-picking deal, which proves you don’t have to have big linemen or anything. You just need people that can throw and catch the ball. That’s all it is – it’s not real football. It made it a little bit more competitive this year, but it’s still 7 on 7 and It’s kind of you one up on each other and it’s over and done with. It comes down to 7 on 7 and that’s the way the cookie crumbles. That’s it – 7 on 7.

Now Brownwood, if you’re interested – some people have short memories – Brownwood won 7 on 7 one time. That was with Chastain, Shipley, Graylon and all those people. They just barely won it. They had a shot at winning State that year but in the next to the last round they ran into Carthage and got beat on a last second play and so ended the ballgame. So, we’ve had one success in 7 on 7 and really one shot at the big game, the State Championship, and those were both a long time ago in 2010.

Now, we get to go again. This will be a challenge for this Brownwood team – a real challenge. To be honest with you, I didn’t think we’d be going so I hope it’s a nice trip. We may lose every game we participate in but then again, they may shock all of us. I’m ready to be shocked!

Until next time, so long everybody.
