A Cisco woman lost her life in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 20, 8.2 miles east of Baird, at 5:01 p.m. Friday, June 6.
Rosa Soto Escobedo, the 79-year-old passenger of the 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Callahan County Justice of the Peace Paige Savell.
The driver, 78-year-old Margaret Stockman of Brownwood, was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in stable condition with non-incapacitating injuries.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety report, the preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was traveling east on Interstate 20 when the driver failed to stay in a single lane. As a result, the vehicle veered off the north side of the roadway and entered the center median. The driver then attempted a faulty evasive maneuver by steering to the right, causing the vehicle to skid clockwise across the roadway and overturn on the south side. During this incident, the passenger in the vehicle was ejected.
The driver was wearing her seat belt and the passenger was not, according to the DPS report. Weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry.
