Opal May Reed of Coleman, Texas passed to the arms of her Lord Jesus at the age of 90 years on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Opal was born in Yoakum, Texas on September 23, 1934 to Willie and Cecil Bishop.  She lived a full life marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors and her family.
Following graduation from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, in 1952, she met and married Robert Reed and together the couple raised three sons and celebrated 53 years of marriage.  She is survived by her eldest son Owen and his wife Diane; her youngest son Boyd and his wife Karen; her granddaughter Katelyn Reed and grandson Austin Reed and wife Catie.  She is also survived by two nephews Steve and Dee Headley.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Reed and her middle son Kyle Reed.
Opal graduated from Tyler Junior College in 1982 with an associate degree in Horticulture.  During her time in Tyler, Opal was a faithful member of Shiloh Road Church of Christ and spent countless hours caring for their grounds.  When she and Robert moved to Coleman they joined the Elm Street Church of Christ and “Miss Opal” spent many years teaching young children at Tuesday School.  She was also an active member at the West Texas Chapter of Master Gardeners.
Opal was later recognized for her dedication and love of gardening with acknowledgement from the Master Gardner Emeritus.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 am with Bob Martin officiating at Coleman Cemetery Pavilion followed by a memorial service at the Elm St Church of Christ Fellowship Hall beginning at 1:00 pm.  Services are under the care and direction of Henderson Funeral Home Staff
