Linda Louise Porter was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on February 25, 1954, to Gurvey and Ouita Bryan Shepherd. They lived in Minden, Louisiana for several years until the unfortunate death of Gurvey when Linda was only three.
Ouita married Wesley Johnson and the family moved to Texarkana, Texas, where she attended Texarkana High School and graduated from East Texas State University at Texarkana (now Texas A&M-Texarkana) with a bachelor of science in Sociology/Psychology.
In 1976 she and a friend helped start a singles Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, Texarkana. It was here where she met Richard Porter. They were married on January 1, 1977.
Linda and Richard moved to Brownwood where Richard worked in his family insurance agency.
More than anything Linda wanted to be a homemaker and raise a family. They had two sons, Brad Alan Porter in 1980 and Stuart Keith Porter in 1986. Her happy times included cooking, sewing, needlepoint, lawn mowing, gardening, taxi service for kids, watching baseball, picking wild flowers, four wheeling on the ranch, feeding hummingbirds and making new friends.
Linda is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard, two sons Brad Porter (Erica) of Brownwood, Stuart Porter (Dayna) of Kyle; two brothers, Hank Johnson (Shiela) of Belton and David Johnson (Esmer) of Roswell, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Robert Porter (Sally) of Brownwood and Charles Porter (Elisa) of Crosby; a niece Sarah Johnson of Orlando, Florida, and five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gage, Claire, Luke, and Hannah
She was preceded in death by her parents Ouita and Wesley Johnson, and nephew Bryan Johnson.
Linda passed from this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, after a year-long battle with bile duct cancer.
The family requests memorials be made to Coggin Church, Gene Porter Scholarship Fund at HPU, or the charity of your choice.
