Ileen Smith

Ileen Smith, age 89, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in Cross Plains, Texas.

Ileen was born on January 14, 1936, in Atwell, Texas to A.B. and Edna Hutchins Foster. She grew up in Atwell and Cross Plains community. She graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Carl Smith on September 28, 1954, and they shared 58 years together. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains. Ileen enjoyed working at flea markets, having yard sales, country music, watching sports, playing bingo and collecting crosses. She loved Elvis, George Strait and Gene Watson. Most of all she loved her family and friends.

Ileen is survived by her son, Rodney (Rose) Smith of Abilene, Texas; grandsons, Ricky Lee (Stacy) Smith of Anna, Texas; Aaron (Hannah) Smith of Abilene, Texas; Matt (Jenny) Smith of Abilene, Texas; granddaughter, Holly Smith of Cross Plains, Texas; great grandsons, Chase Smith (Hailey) of Van Alstyne, Texas; Jordan Walker of Abilene, Texas; great granddaughters, Arista Smith (Tyson) Kendall of Anna, Texas; Brooklyn Smith of Abilene, Texas; Evelyn Cortez of Abilene, Texas; great-great grandson, Wyatt Smith of Van Alstyne, Texas; great-great granddaughters, Gracelyn Taylor of Anna, Texas; Blakeley Connahey of Van Alstyne, Texas; sisters, Mamie Webb of Abilene, Texas; Martha Leveritt of Lake Brownwood, Texas; Vicki Cobb of Temple, Texas; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ileen was preceded in death by her husband Carl Smith; sons, Ricky Wayne Smith; Randell Lynn Smith; Reggie Daryn Smith; parents; brother, Bugs Foster; sister, Jessie Raben.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains, Texas, burial to follow at Atwell Cemetery in Callahan County, Texas. The family will have a time of visitation on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Cross Plains, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the Cross Plains Senior Citizens, Cross Plains Fire Department, First Baptist Church Kitchen or charity of your choice.
