The Brownwood Lions 7-on-7 football state qualifying season kicks off Saturday with games at both Gordon Wood Stadium and Longhorn Stadium in Early.
The Lions will compete in Pool A Gordon Wood Stadium with games against state qualifier Ponder at 9 a.m., Gatesville at 10:20 a.m. and Waxahachie Life at 11:40 a.m. – all on the south end of the stadium.
The Pool A winner will face the Pool B winner, which also competes at Gordon Wood Stadium with games at 9:40 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. Comprising Pool B are Andrews, Graham, San Angelo Lake View and McGregor.
This reminder, the construction at Gordon Wood Stadium will result in limited seating for those who attend.
Playing their games in Early are Pool C teams Benbrook, Jim Ned, Midland Christian and Stephenville, as well as Pool D squads Comanche, Decatur, Glen Rose and Whitney. Those two pool winners will also meet in the semifinals.
The winners of Saturday’s semifinal games, which will start at 1:20 p.m. in both Brownwood and Early, earn berths to the 7-on-7 Division II state tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27.
The Lions are looking to make a return to the state tournament after missing out in 2024 – the first year Brownwood has not advanced to state in 7-on-7 since it began competing in 2000.
