The expected completion date of the Student Activity Center on the Brownwood High School campus remains August, as BISD Athletic Director Mitch Moore gave a tour of the inside of the facility to ‘The Voice of the Brownwood Lions’ Dallas Huston Monday afternoon.
Moore stated the installation of turf is scheduled to take place in June, as the final touches in preparation are being completed. Work also continues on the SAC offices, as well as the 30-yard turf surface that will connect the SAC with the Snodgrass Fitness Center.
Moore also showed off the weight room and revamped design of the turf room within the Snodgrass Fitness Center as well.
The Student Activity is being built as a result of the near $60 million Brownwood ISD bond that was passed by votes in May 2023.
Among the highlights of the SAC are:
- The artificial turf indoor field will be a full 100 yards, with two end zones on either side, longer than originally anticipated
- The field will include a sideline area for band set up and additional training exercises
- The sideline area will also include a space to run 50-meter sprints
- The entrance to the SAC will feature a corridor with male and female restrooms with three toilets each, along with additional storage space
- Tiles will be added to the walls of the corridor to keep it protected
- A stairway on the exterior of the building will lead to a raised platform inside overlooking the turf field
- Translucent panels, in place of windows, will be included along the upper portion of the SAC to allow in light
Waldrop Construction is the Construction Manager At Risk for the Student Activity Center.
