At the UIL Class 1A State Tennis Tournament at the Blossom Center in San Antonio Thursday, Zephyr’s Ethan Byers and CJ Byers bowed out in the quarterfinal round. The Byers brothers, who clinched their state berth by winning the Region 4-1A boys doubles championship in Bryan last week, received a first-round bye at the state competition before falling to Zeke Hernandez and Cado Bannowsky of Menard (6-3, 6-0).
