
Through 44 games this season, Brownwood graduate Shelby Miller has posted a 3-0 record with three saves and a 1.45 ERA in 18 appearances out of the bullpen for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Miller’s most recent outing was Wednesday as he picked up a save in Arizona’s 8-7 victory over the San Francisco Giants, yielding one run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout in one inning of relief.
All three of Miller’s save have come in the month of May, doubling his career total, as he has surrendered just three eearned runs in 18.2 innings with 21 strikeouts and seven walks in 2025.
Heading into Thursday action, the Diamondbacks are 23-21 on the season, 5.5 games behind the National League West leader and defending World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
Miller now owns a 50-66 career record with a 4.06 ERA and six saves. He has pitched in 272 Major League games, starting 133, and tossed 894.1 innings with 756 strikeouts and 351 walks.
The 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, Miller is paying in his 13th season.
Miller pitched for the Cardinals, Braves, Diamondbacks, Tigers, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers – a total of nine franchises overall.
Miller made his MLB debut on September 5, 2012 with St. Louis.
On May 11, 2013, Miller tossed a one-hitter with the Cardinals, retiring the final 27 Colorado Rockies batters in a row after yielding a lead-off single. Miller notched 13 strikeouts in the contest.
Miller appeared in the 2015 All-Star Game as a member of the Braves, as he posted a 3.02 ERA in 33 starts with a 6-17 record. Miller was one out away from recording a no-hitter against the Florida Marlins on May 17, 2015.
Miller first pitched with the Diamondbacks from 2016-18 as he arrived in a trade following his lone All-Star season with the Atlanta Braves. Miller underwent Tommy John surgery during his time in Arizona and posted a 6.35 ERA while missing most of the 2017-18 campaigns.
