Patsy Ruth “Nannie” Jones went to heaven on May 14, 2025, at the age of 92. She passed peacefully in her home in Brownwood, surrounded by her adoring family.

Her service will be at 3pm on Sunday, May 18 at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. A private graveside service will be held in Rising Star for family at a later date.

Patsy was born in her granny’s house in Thalia, Texas, in 1933, to Gus and Lillian Wilson Hammonds. She graduated from Crowell High School and soon after eloped with the love of her life, Joe Jones, on August 11, 1951. They moved to Floydada to begin a life of farming together. Their daughter, Debbie, was born in 1952, followed by their son, J. Don, on March 6, 1961.

Over the years, Pat worked as a waitress and later with the appraisal district. In 1983, she and Joe moved to Brownwood, where they settled for good and made it their home for the next 42 years. Together, they enjoyed evening boat rides “toodling” around Lake Brownwood. Pat’s home was the heart of countless gatherings – hosting parties, preparing meals, and offering warmth and hospitality to all. She and Joe worshiped faithfully at Lake Brownwood Church of Christ, living out their values in both word and deed.

Pat is preceded by her parents, her brother Bud Hammonds, her cousin Laverne Renfro, her chosen daughter, Carrie Welty who have waited patiently in heaven for her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Leroy Zavodny of Caldwell; and son and daughter-in-law J. Don and Tammy Jones of Early. She was the proud Nannie to Branda Hickman, Jodee and Jerimy Helm, Jeremy and Jessica Jones, Heather and Kyle Albrecht, Ashley Zavodny, and Raigan and Aaron Janssen.

Patsy leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren – Lauren, Jake, Kutter, Cody, Brodee, Korlie, Reese, Cooper, Ryan, Camryn, Jayden, Julianne, Jett, Jack, and Jemma, and three great-great-grandchildren, Kensley, Ainsley, and Sawyer – with two more buns in the oven. She also lovingly embraced four “chose grandchildren” -Tammy, Michael, Meagan, and Mandy – who brought her thirteen additional great-grandchildren: Michael, Brianna, Colt, Seth, Clayton, Chris, Stepheneye, Toni, Rileigh, Tanner, Jaime, Brogan, and Allie and two great-great-grandchildren, Emerson and Brooks. Pat is also survived by her brother and sister-n-law, Tony and Cecilia Jones, her nephews, Zane and Amy Jones and Terry and Kamala Jones and many great-nieces and nephews.

Pat loved nothing more than having her family gathered at the lake house—whether for summer fun, Christmas, Easter, or just because. Everyone was welcome (dogs included), and her home was always filled with laughter and love. Her legacy will always be her family, her generosity and her kind heart. The family wants to specially acknowledge the kindness and loving support of Pat and Joe’s dear friends Jim and Jane Ketcham of Lake Brownwood.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the Jones family online at heartlandfuneralhome.com
