
HOLLIDAY – The Bangs Lady Dragons softball season reached its conclusion in the Class 2A Division I Region I semifinals with a second straight loss to the Clarendon Lady Broncos, 6-3, Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a 7-6 loss in Game 1 of the series Friday, Bangs (25-9) erased an early three-run deficit against Clarendon (27-5-1) in the second outing. But the Lady Broncos pushed the final three runs across the plate to advance to the regional championship round.
In Saturday’s contest, the Lady Dragons finished with 10 hits – three each by Stormy Stringer and Aubree Buford, and one apiece by Cheyenne Rush, Justice Baker, Abby Wolf and Mattyson Taylor. Stringer accounted for the lone Bangs RBI.
In the circle, Wolf allowed four earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. The Bangs defense committed two errors behind her.
The top three batters in the Clarendon order – Cummins, Elam and Cummins, each recorded three hits.
Down 2-0, Bangs scored its first run in the top of the third as Baker led off with a double and scored from third with two outs and Julianna Ethridge at the plate.
The Lady Dragons drew even at 3 in the top of the fourth as Taylor singled to start the inning and scored on an RBI double by Stringer. Later, Stringer tied the game with one out as she scored from third with Adalynne Stephens at the plate.
Clarendon took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth an Elam’s RBI double.
