BRYAN – The Zephyr Bulldogs boys doubles team of Ethan Byers and CJ Byers have punched their ticket to the UIL Class 1A Tennis State Championships by capturing the Region IV-A title on Thursday.

Seeded sixth coming into the tournament, the Byers brothers defeated a duo from Evant, 6-0, 6-1; then knocked off the No. 3 seed from Knippa, 6-3, 6-0; triumphed over the No. 2 seed from McMullen County, 6-2, 7-5; and downed the No. 4 seed from Lometa, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The UIL Class 1A Tennis State Championships will be held Thursday, May 15 at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio.

Also for Zephyr, Haley Eason won her first girls singles match at regionals, but fell in the second round in three sets.
