AUSTIN – Early High School’s two entrants in the UIL Class 3A Track and Field State Championships both turned in fourth-place performances Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
In the Class 3A boys high jump, senior Longhorn Camden Myers finished in a tie for fourth place as he cleared a height of 6-4.
Myers passed the 5-10, 6-0, 6-2 and 6-4 marks on the first try, but in three efforts was unable to get over the bar at 6-6. Myers won the Region I-3A championship with a top effort of 6-8, a school record.
Wade Stallones of Franklin captured the state championship by clearing 6-8 followed by silver medalist Blas Villarreal of Banquete (6-7) and bronze medalist Tevan Evans of Vernon (6-6).
Logan Trotter of Anahuac tied Myers for fourth place as neither missed a jump until the 6-6 mark.
Myers was back in Austin for state for the second year in a row, as in 2024 he placed fifth with a height of 6-2.
In the Class 3A girls shot put, sophomore Jamie Vassar placed fourth with a best effort of 40-9.5 feet.
Vassar sat alone in second place after her initial effort of 36-4, while her best performance of 40-9.5 came on her second attempt. However, silver medalist Rayaa Brown of Hooks (42-4) and bronze medalist Kristen Betts of Woodville (41-1.5) both exceeded Vassar’s performance on their second tries.
State champion Taylor Wiseman owned the best effort of 47-2 and all six of her throws cleared more distance than anyone else in the field.
Vassar was making her second straight trip to state as last year she came in eighth place with a top throw of 37-7.
She finished second at the Region I-3A meet earlier this record with a school record effort of 43-7.75.
