First of all, how is it pronounced?  “Go-wash” is a fair approximation.

Everyone is welcome to a free demonstration by June Musick this Saturday, April 26, from 1-3 pm at the Brownwood Art Center, 215 Fisk:  What is gouache?

Doors open at 12:30.

Gouache was first used in France in the 18th century.  It is a water-based paint with higher pigment than watercolor.  It dries fast, can be re-wetted, and leaves a matte finish   June will offer her insights and experiences using this type of paint.

Those interested in learning more can sign up for June’s Gouache classes in May.  Afternoon class sessions will be offered on May 1, 8, and 15, from 1-3 pm or from 4-6 pm.  Cost for the 3-part series is $85 for Brownwood Art Association members and $100 for non-members.

Register and pay in person at the Art Center at the Demonstration, or during regular gallery hours, 2-6 pm, Mon-Fri.  After registration, you will receive a syllabus and supply list.

For more information, call the Art Center at 325-641-2916, or visit the website, brownwoodart.org.
