Roland Howard Finch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 19, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on September 2, 1953, in Sweetwater, Texas, Roland’s life was a testament to faith, family, and community.

Roland graduated from Divide High School in 1972 and soon after completed Barber College in Abilene. He began his barber career at Wayne’s Barber Shop in Sweetwater, where he honed his skills and developed a knack for making people smile with his stories and humor. In August 1972, Roland married the love of his life, Ronda Hutton, and together they built a life filled with laughter and love.

In 1992, Roland and Ronda moved to Brownwood, where they opened University Cuts and Copy Shoppe. With Ronda managing the print side of the business, they created a welcoming space where customers felt like family. Over the years, they expanded and relocated, establishing University Cuts Barber Shop and University Copy and Print, a pillar of the community.

Roland took immense pride in his family, cherishing the births of his two children, Stephen and Stephanie, and later, his four grandchildren, Kindry, Weston, Sawyer, and Berkeley, who brought him boundless joy. His greatest professional achievement was starting his own business, a dream he nurtured with passion and dedication.

Beyond his family and business, Roland was deeply committed to his faith and community. As an active leader at Ave W Church of Christ, he inspired many with his devotion and kindness. He also supported local organizations like the Shriners and Kiwanis, always eager to lend a helping hand.

Roland’s personality was as vibrant as his laughter. Known as a jokester, he loved telling funny life stories and had a twinkle in his eye when he knew he could trick someone with his playful humor. His warmth and charm left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Roland is survived by his cherished wife, Ronda Finch, son, Stephen Finch, and daughter, Stephanie Kirbo. He is predeceased by his parents, Eva Lee Maynard Finch and Elliott Howard Finch.

A memorial service celebrating Roland’s life will be held at Ave W Church of Christ, located at 800 Ave W, Brownwood, Texas, on April 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. In closing, we are reminded of Roland’s often quoted scripture, Philippians

4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Roland’s spirit, laughter, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. May we all find comfort in the beautiful memories he leaves behind.
