LUBBOCK – The Brownwood Lions golf team sits in 10th place at the midway point of the Region I-4A boys golf tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course, while senior Caleb Modawell is just two shots off the lead heading into Thursday’s final round of the 36-hole event.
Modawell carded a 1-under par 71 Wednesday, leading to a six-way tie for third place behind tournament leader Caden Fields of Andrews (69) and second place Ford Farhart of Brock (70). On the eight golfers within two strokes of the lead, five are not members of the one of the top three teams.
The top three teams, and top three individuals not on a qualifying team, advance to the UIL Class 4A boys golf state tournament at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland May 5-6.
Bridgeport leads the tournament following a 293 Wednesday score trailed by Andrews with a 295 and Canyon Randall with a 296. The rest of the Top 10 includes Lubbock Cooper Liberty with a 298, Brock and Krum with 306s, a second Andrews team at 309, Borger at 313 and Brownwood at 318.
Along with Modawell, junior Will Stewardson fired a 79, senior Cobe Walker posted an 83, and junior Peyton Sharp finished with an 85.
