Lila Mares was one of four players to record two hits and she also drove in a run for Brownwood (14-10, 4-4), which heads to Graham (9-15, 4-4) Tuesday in a battle of teams tied for second place in the 6-4A standings.

The see-saw ride through District 6-4A softball competition continued for the Brownwood Lady Lions Friday night, as they secured their second sweep of a league foe with a 10-4 home victory over Stephenville.

With the victory over Stephenville (11-14-1, 3-5), the Lady Lions (14-10, 4-4) moved back into a tie for second place in the district standings with Graham (9-15, 4-4), which lost to first-place Brock (23-0-2, 8-0) by a 16-1 count Friday. Brownwood’s final two games of the regular season are at Graham Tuesday and home against Brock Thursday.

In other district action Friday, Glen Rose (13-12, 2-6) pulled off a 7-5 upset over Mineral Wells (16-9, 3-5).

Against Stephenville, the Lady Lions surrendered a run in the top of the first inning but fired back with four in the bottom half of the frame. Leading 5-1 after two innings – the final of the first meeting between the two teams – the Lady Lions witnessed Stephenville trim the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the fourth. In the home half of the fourth, however, the Lady Lions put the game out of reach with five more runs for the final six-run margin of victory.

Brownwood’s 11-hit onslaught included two each from Jeniffer Romero, Carlee Burks, Lila Mares and Kaydence Allen, and one apiece from Chloe Walls, Hanah Campos and Peyton Pena. Romero, Walls and Campos each doubled. Burks, Allen and Walls led the charge with two RBIs apiece and Romero, Mares, Campos and Tynlea Wilson each contributed one.

In the circle, Allen went the distance and yielded four earned runs on 10 hits with nine strikeouts and six walks. The Brownwood defense committed three errors behind her.

The Lady Lions travel to Graham at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and welcome Brock at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
