The Howard Payne University athletic department on Monday announced the hiring of Micah Taylor to head Howard Payne’s new beach volleyball program.

Micah (Cisneroz) Taylor is a Howard Payne alumnus who was an All-Conference volleyball and basketball player for the Lady Jackets from 2015-2017.

Since her time as a player at HPU, Micah has been working in the high school and club volleyball ranks in Comanche and Stephenville, Texas.

“We are excited to have Coach Taylor back on campus,” said Hunter Sims, Director of Athletics. “She is the perfect fit to help guide the new beach volleyball program.”

During the 2024 season, Micah helped lead the Comanche Maidens to their first playoff appearance since 2017. She coached the District Defensive MVP and multiple first-team All-District players.

“I am humbled and grateful to accept the new head beach volleyball position here at my alma mater,” said Micah Taylor. “A heartfelt thank you to HPU President Dr. Hines and Director of Athletics Dr. Sims for this incredible opportunity to launch the program. I look forward to leading these student-athletes on this exciting new journey for the university and supporting their growth in both athletics and faith.”

Micah has also worked extensively with the club volleyball program Sky High in Stephenville, Texas developing practice plans, tournament organization, and player development.

As an athlete at HPU, she was named team MVP two seasons and received 2nd Team All-Conference and All-West Division honors. Micah was also a great player for the Lady Jacket basketball team receiving 1st Team and HM Mention All-Conference awards as well as being named to the All-Defensive Team.

The 2017 HPU Tami Pattillo Memorial Award honoree, Micah received a Bachelor of Science from HPU in ESS in 2016 and a Master of Business Administration from HPU in 2018.

Micah is married to Trent and they have two daughters, Hollyn and Lottie.
