AUSTIN – At the 97th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, the second largest track meet in the United States with over 5,000 competitors on hand, the Brownwood Lady Lions turned in a pair of medal-winning performances over the weekend in the High School Division I portion of the meet.

Competing in five events overall, the Lady Lions’ weekend was highlighted by third-place finishes from both the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams, and more school record times.

The 4×200 relay team of Jade Morin, Kaya Phllips, Aniah Hines and Kate Tindol was clocked in a new school record time of 1:40.34, third best in the High School Division I finals, on Saturday afternoon. Brownwood trailed only Rosary (1:36.96) and Oaks Christian (1:38.73). Saturday’s 1:40.34 broke the school record time of 1:41.26 set last week in Abilene.

On Friday, the Lady Lions ran the fifth-best time of 1:41.27 to qualify for the finals. A total of 27 teams competed in the High School Division I draw.

Then the 4×100 relay team of Icess Hall, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin and Aniah Hines was also clocked in a time of 48.03 in Saturday afternoon’s final, trailing only Oaks Christian (47.08) and Espiscopal (47.39).

Earlier Saturday morning, the Lady Lions ran a 48.87 to win Heat 3 with the fifth-fastest time overall to qualify for the finals.

Concluding Saturday’s action, the 4×400 relay team of Kate Tindol, Jade Morin, Rebekkah Delgado and Braycee Lee placed sixth in a time of 4:00.88 in the High School Division I race. Brownwood came in behind St. John’s College (3:44.61) Fort Bend Christian (3:49.21), Canyon (3:55.54), Holliday (3:57.37) and Shallowater (4:00.74).

The Lady Lions qualified for the finals Friday with the fourth-best time of 3:56.94 in the prelims, which won their heat and broke the school record time of 3:57.81 set in Graham earlier this month, as 59 teams competed.

Also on Friday, Hannah Deen competed in the high jump and cleared 5-2.25 feet to finish tied for 21st out of 28 competitors, while Kate Tindol ran a time of 13.06 in the 100 meters to place 31st overall out of 41 runners.

The Lady Lions and Lions will next compete at the District 6-4A meet in Graham Wednesday and Thursday. Action begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the 3200 meters and field events and the running prelims at 4 p.m. Thursday’s schedule starts at 10:30 a.m. with the remainder of the field events, while the running finals begin at 4 p.m.
