During Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Brownwood City Council, Police Chief Ed Kading recognized City employees Will Collins and Matthew Clevinger for assisting an officer with a recent arrest.

Kading told the Council, “A few weeks back, on March 5, one of my officers was on patrol and came across a subject on the roadway that he knew had a felony warrant for his arrest. When he got out to talk to this young man, the subject fled and the officer pursued him. When he caught him, there was a physical altercation that ensued and the young man that was resisting the officer had a knife and a firearm on him. Will Collins and Matthew Clevinger were working right down the street, about a block away, while the struggle was going on. These two gentlemen, without even hesitating or thinking about their own safety, ran down the street and assisted the officer in getting this person in custody before anyone was injured. They saw a fellow City employee that needed some assistance and I can’t thank them enough. It shows what the citizens of Brownwood are like and what the culture of our City is.”

Kading then presented each with a coin, as they received an ovation from those in attendance at the Council meeting.
