
EDINBURGH – The Early Lady Horns earned a Class 3A Small School state championship, as well as a state runner-up finish, at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet here Thursday.
In the 114-pound weight class, Early’s Matty Boswell is the state champion after lifting a total of 795 pounds, 65 more than runner-up Ruby Mendez (730) of Nixon Smiley. Boswell lifted 315 pounds in the squat, 180 in the bench press and 300 in the deadlift.
In the 123s, Julienne Socong finished second overall with 900 pounds lifted, just 10 pounds shy of state champion Miley Alaniz of Vanderbilt Industrial (910). Socong lifted 340 in the squat, 210 on the bench, and 350 in the deadlift.
Also, Rayana Barzart competed in the 242-pound weight class at state as well, but failed to successfully complete three attempts.
The Lady Horns, who placed sixth in the team standings Thursday, captured the Class 3A Small School team state championship last spring.
