Nila Mae Brown

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Nila Mae Barclay Brown, 91, of Brownwood, Texas, passed peacefully March 10, 2025, with her family present. She was born on August 26, 1933, in Brady, Texas, and resided in Pontotoc, Texas. The family moved to Holt, Texas in 1941 and Nila attended school at Bowser, then after Bowser was consolidated with Richland Springs, she attended school there until the family moved to Eldorado where she graduated in 1951.

She married the love of her life, Edwin Odean Brown, on August 25, 1951. They moved to Austin, Texas where Nila was a secretary/bookkeeper for Dobie Middle School for over 20 years. Odean and Nila were active members of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austin, Texas where she traveled with the Sunshine Choir for many years. They loved to travel. They visited almost every state in their campers along with many international countries. Nila also enjoyed hobbies such as needle work, reading and writing poetry, creating travel memory books, and researching family ancestry.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Stacy A. Brown, daughter-in-law, Janie Brown, grandchildren, Mack and Bridget Brown, Shane Feemster and Charity Verlander, Chris Kelly and Cherie Salinas, great-grandchildren, Breslyn Rowell and Jeffrey Mack Brown, Seth and Rhema Feemster, Lathan Salinas, Beau, Amelia, and Levi Kelly, sister, Shannon Barclay Morris, sister-in-law, Betty Barclay, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Odean Brown, sons, Michael and Gary Brown, mother, Estelle Barclay, father, Walter Barclay, sisters, Alma Blanche Miller, Alva Lois Smith, and Fern Barclay Simpson, brothers, Thomas and Maurice Barclay.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 3:00pm at Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood, Texas. Interment will follow at Richland Springs Cemetery in Richland Springs, Texas. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 2:00-2:45pm at Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
