
COMANCHE – The Early Longhorns opened District 8-3A baseball competition Tuesday with an 11-1 victory over the Comanche Indians.
Early (3-7, 1-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings, and the final four runs in the fifth.
The Longhorns tallied five hits, drew eight walks, and were aided by four Comanche errors.
Lawson Barron doubled and drove in one run for Early while Jack Nowell singled and plated a pair of runners. Brayden Moya, Eli Pallette and Chris Ivy contributed singles as well. Skyden Stoddard, Brennan Rasor and Rowan McDermed were also credited with an RBI apiece.
On the mound, Pallette went the distance and allowed one run on one hit with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Longhorns will host Comanche on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Comanche 16, Lady Horns 6
COMANCHE – The Early Lady Horns were dealt a second straight District 8-3A softball loss Tuesday by the Comanche Maidens, 16-6.
Early (10-4, 1-2) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but Comanche reclaimed a 4-2 edge in the bottom of the third. The Lady Horns crept within 4-3 in the top of the fourth but the Maidens answered with six runs apiece in the bottom of the fourth and fifth frames to enforce the 10-run mercy rule.
The Lady Horns amassed 10 hits – a two-run home run from Jordan Simmons and a solo home run from Jamie Vassar, who also singled. Kyleigh Caperton added two hits, including a triple, and Marissa Reedy singled and drove in a run. Aleeya McCombs and Sydney Greaves both singled and knocked in a run; and Andie Simpson and Jamie Lyon also contributed base hits.
In the circle, Caperton and Leslee Beard yielded a total of 14 earned runs on 19 hits with two strikeouts and three walks. The Early defense committed one error behind them.
The Lady Horns will next host Breckenridge Friday.
