MILLSAP – In a wild District 8-3A softball opener, the Early Lady Horns recorded 29 hits, drew five walks and capitalized on four errors to knock off the Millsap Lady Bulldogs, 32-13, Wednesday.

In a game delayed a day due Tuesday’s High Wind Warning and Blowing Dust Advisory, the Lady Horns (10-2, 1-0) – who earlier this week debuted in the TGCA Class 3A softball rankings at No. 25 – jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Early’s advantage grew to 10-1 after two innings, but a nine-run bottom of the third for Millsap knotted the score at 10 apiece. Through four innings, the Lady Horns had regained a 15-12 edge, and after five innings the Early advantage stood at 19-13. Then, in the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Horns offense erupted for 13 runs to eventually enforce the 10-run mercy rule after six complete frames.

Offensively for Early, Aleeya McCombs, Marissa Reedy and Jaime Lyon each hit a home run, as the Lady Horns finished with 14 extra-base hits. Jordan Simmons led the way with five hits and five RBIs, Lyon added five hits and four RBIs, Andie Simpson contributed four hits and four RBIs, McCombs notched four hits and three RBIs, Reedy chalked up three hits and five RBIs, Sydney Greaves added three hits and a pair RBIs, Kyleigh Caperton registered three hits, Vassar logged two hits and a pair of RBIs, and Leslee Beard drove in two runs as well.

Early’s pitching combination of Caperton and Beard issued 12 walks, yielded 10 hits and struck out five batters. The Lady Horn defense committed just one error behind them.

The Lady Horns are slated to be back in action at 5 p.m. Friday when they host Peaster.
