Mark Van Evans, age 66, of Trinidad, Texas, passed away suddenly, Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Brady, Texas. Mark was born on February 1, 1959, in Crane, Texas to Jerry Evans and Linda (Yates) Evans. He grew up in Odessa and graduated from high school in 1977. He was an incredibly talented athlete in high school. After graduation, he entered the military and was an immensely proud Marine from 1977 to 1987, serving on the USS Midway. He married Karen Susan McGregor in February of 1984. In his early years, he was a little league baseball coach and active in anything his kids were involved in. He worked in the oilfield as a drill site operator for over 30 years. He loved working on boats, building things and “tinkering” around with projects. He was a proud father, loved his children and was a great caregiver for his wife. He loved Texas and Alaska. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman. He and his wife moved to Trinidad about 6 months ago, after living in Alaska for several years. They were members of the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Eagle River, Alaska.

A memorial service, with military honors, for Mark Van Evans will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. His cremated remains will be interred at Anchorage Memorial Park in Anchorage, Alaska. Friends may view and/or sign Mark’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, of 41 years, Karen Evans of Trinidad, Texas; sons Nicholas Evans of Eagle River, Alaska and Gregory Evans of Portland, Oregon; daughter Shannon Evans of Portland, Oregon; brother Brett Evans and wife Pam of Alaska; sisters Terri Barner of Texas and Rebecca “Becky” Pettit of Viet Nam and good friend Mark Scott and wife Laurie of Trinidad, Texas.
