Rev. Richard Evans

Reverend Richard Austin Evans, Sr., age 85, of Brady, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in Brady. Richard was born on December 28, 1939, to Richard Dalton “R.D.” Evans and Verna (Light) Evans. He married Sarah Dorene Elder on February 15, 1958, in New Braunfels, Texas. He worked as a butcher and a market manager before starting his own trucking business. He owned and operated Richard A. Evans Trucking for 25 years. He was drawn to the Word and began his ministry as a Youth Pastor. He founded Christian Community Church in Brady, where he Pastored for 27 years before retiring. He received an Honorary Doctorate in Theology from Grace Theological Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio of which he was immensely proud. He enjoyed being in the county, raising his sheep & goats. He loved his dogs, and he loved to work. He was always working on a project or “piddling” with something, when visiting family would get ready to leave, he would always pray with them. People would drop by just to have Richard pray with them. He was a lifelong McCulloch County resident.

Funeral services for Reverend Richard Evans, Sr. will be held at 10:00am, Friday, February 28, 2025, at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Reverend R.A. Evans, Jr., and Reverend Justin McFarland officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Friday morning from 9am to 10am at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Friends may view and/or sign Reverend Evans’ online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. Pallbearers will be Kevin Evans, Chris Evans, Ray Evans Ryan Shields, Austin Evans, Jacob Evans, Jerred Burke, and Oliver Evans.

Reverend Evans is survived by his sons Reverend R.A. Evans, Jr. and his wife Arlene of San Angelo, Texas, Sam Evans and wife Becky of Paradise, Texas and Calvin Evans and wife Delilah of Beeville, Texas; daughter Loretta Shields of Round Rock, Texas; brother Orvelle Evans and wife Thelma of Buchanon Dam, Texas; sister Jimmie McFarland and husband Rodny of Brady, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren ; several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert Evans and Grady Evans. Memorial contributions in memory of Reverend Richard A.
