Brownwood softball cruises past Llano, Ballinger to open tournament action

Lila Mares and the Lady Lions (7-5) will continue tournament action against Marble Falls at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Plainview at 4:10 p.m. Friday, and Wall at 4:50 p.m. Saturday.

LLANO – The Brownwood Lady Lions earned a pair of victories to kick off the Llano softball on Thursday, defeating the host Llano as well as Ballinger.

The Lady Lions won the their opener over Llano, 7-1, Thursday morning.

Brownwood scored three runs in each of the first two innings and added its final run in the top of the third. Llano pushed its lone run across the plate in the bottom of the first inning.

The Lady Lions chalked up six hits, sparked by two from Chloe Walls, who doubled and drove home a run; one from Kaydence Allen, who collected a pair of RBIs; a double from Carlee Burks and a single from Lila Mares, who both plated a run; and Jakayla Peek also contributed a base hit.

Brownwood also drew eight walks, with Hanah Campos and Peyton Pena each earning two, along with one apiece by Allen, Peek, Jeniffer Romero, and Karina Mata.

In the circle, Allen pitched all three innings and allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks. The Lady Lion defense committed one error behind her.

Thursday afternoon, the Lady Lions hammered Ballinger by a 14-2 count.

The Lady Lions led 6-2 after one inning and tacked on their final eight runs in the top of the second inning.

Brownwood generated 15 hits as Mares compiled three hits and two RBIs; Walls added three hits and one RBI; Burks finished with two hits and a pair of RBIs; Romero and Pena contributed two hits apiece; Allen chipped in one hit and two RBIs; and Campos and Tynlea Wilson recorded one hit and one RBI each. Peek also finished with one RBI.

In the circle, Wilson gave up two unearned runs on a pair of hits with one walk in three innings. The Brownwood defense committed three errors.

The Lady Lions (7-5) continue tournament action against Marble Falls at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Plainview at 4:10 p.m. Friday, and Wall at 4:50 p.m. Saturday.
