Dragons sweep three games, Horns drop two in Brown County Tournament

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons defeated Stanton, Goldthwaite and Comanche on their home turf as part of the Brown County Tournament to start their baseball season with a perfect 3-0 record.

Meanwhile, the Early Longhorns were denied home victories in their first two games of the season in their portion of the tournament.

In a 6-0 win over Stanton for Bangs, Skylar Minshew and Jaxon Duncan combined on a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and four walks.

Offensively, Rex Guerrero recorded two hits with two RBIs, Kaleb Biggs notched two hits, Duncan and Kason Klutts each tallied a hit and an RBI, and Minshew and Hunter Crowell also contributed hits.

In an 8-3 win over Goldthwaite, Crowell and Caiden Orosco surrendered three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Standouts on offense were Conner Bible with two hits and one RBI, Guerrero with one hit and three RBIs, and Crowell with one hit and two RBIs. Duncan, Minshew Klutts and Biggs also finished with hits.

In a 9-7 triumph over Comanche, Bible recorded two hits and a pair of RBIs, Minshew added one hit and three RBIs, Klutts and Guerrero both contributed one hit and one RBI, Duncan and Orosco finished with one hit each, and Everett Kirchner drove in a run.

On the mound, Duncan, Orosco and Biggs gave up seven runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and four walks between them.

For the Early Longhorns, they suffered losses on their home turf to Snyder, 4-0, and Jim Ned, 12-2.

Bangs (3-0) next visits Stamford at 5 p.m. Tuesday while Early (0-2) hits the field again Thursday at the Hawley tournament.
