PLAYOFF HOOPS ROUNDUP: May Tigers hold off Lingleville, 45-40, for bi-district title

DE LEON – The TABC Class A No. 22 May Tigers, champions of District 21, captured a bi-district championship with a 45-40 victory over the Lingleville Cardinals here Tuesday night.

Tied at 12 after one quarter, the Tigers (30-3) grabbed a 22-20 halftime lead that stood at 32-30 heading into the final eight minutes.

May received 15 points from Kobey Morris, 13 from Ben Harrell, 11 from Brody Stice and six points from Jackson Lusk.

The Tigers will face Avalon, which defeated Neches, 41-25, Tuesday night, in the area round of the playoffs later this week.

Newcastle 51, May Lady Tigers 22

BRECKENRIDGE – Squaring off for the second time this season, the May Lady Tigers were unable to gain a measure of revenge in regional semifinals action with a 51-22 loss to Newcastle here Tuesday night.

May (22-10), which dropped the first meeting 61-27 in November, trailed in the rematch 11-5 after one period, 38-18 at halftime, and 52-21 after three quarters.

Scoring for the Lady Tigers were Jordyn Gerhardt with seven points, Kenlyn King with six, Cortney Harper with four, McKenna Landes with three, and Aubree Gerhardt with two points.
