Kaydence Allen struck out seven in three innings in the circle Monday for Brownwood (0-1), which is back in action Thursday at the Stephenville tournament

FREDERICKSBURG – The Brownwood Lady Lions softball team started its season Monday night with a 16-0 road loss at the hands of Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg pitcher Ava Stuewe, who has signed to play college softball for UCF in the Big 12, tossed a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. Center fielder Jeniffer Romero and third baseman Carlee Burks, the top two batters in Brownwood’s order, tallied the hits.

In the circle, Tynlea Wilson and Kaydence Allen combined to allow four earned runs on 13 hits with seven strikeouts and five walks, and the Brownwood defense committed six errors behind them.

“The girls put the bat on the ball more than I expected,” said Lady Lions head coach Cherita Munguia. “Their hitters are top notch and it was good work for our pitchers.”

The Lady Lions (0-1) return to action Thursday as they begin three days of competition at the Stephenville tournament.
