GRAHAM – Making their first postseason appearance since 2018, the Early Lady Horns captured a bi-district basketball championship Monday night as they upended the Vernon Lady Lions, 42-37, in Class 3A Division I first-round action.

The Lady Horns (19-13) rallied from a 14-10 deficit after one quarter as they closed the gap to 24-23 at halftime, surged in front 33-32 through three periods, and outscored Vernon by four points over the final eight minutes.

Gabby Benson led the offensive attack for Early with 14 points followed by 13 from Andie Simpson, seven from Jamie Vasser, four from Aliyah Harlan, and two points each from Jordan Simmons and Avery Willams.

Early will next face either Llano or Clyde, who square off at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Bangs, later this week in second-round action.
