May girls edge Zephyr, May boys topple Poolville in non-district hoops action

May Lady Tigers 37, Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 33

In a battle of playoff-bound squads, the May Lady Tigers held off the Zephyr Lady Bulldogs, 37-33, Tuesday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.

May (20-8) secured its 18th consecutive victory despite trailing Zephyr 12-9 after one quarte. The Lady Tigers grabbed a 19-18 halftime lead, but the Lady Bulldogs knotted the score at 25 heading into the fourth period.

Jordyn Gerhardt paced May with 14 points followed by seven from Chloe Lord, six from Kenlyn King, five from Mia Musick, three from McKenna Landes and two points from Aubree Gerhardt.

Scoring for Zephyr were Haley Eason with 10 points, Nae’j Payne with nine, Avery Stevens with eight, and Lundon Lucier, Kirsten King and Ronni McClain with two points apiece.

The District 21-A champion Lady Tigers visit Lingleville in the first round of the playoffs Monday while the District 25-A runner-up Lady Bulldogs open postseason play Tuesday against Jonesboro.

May Tigers 54, Poolville 40

In another showdown between teams headed to the postseason, the District 21-1A champion May Tigers knocked off Poolville, 54-40, Tuesday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.

May (27-2) trailed District 11 fourth seed Poolville, 14-12, after one quarter, led 26-20 at halftime, and carried a 36-27 advantage into the fourth period.

Leading the charge for the Tigers were Brody Stice with 17 points, Ben Harrell with 11, Kobey Morris with 10, Jackson Lusk with seven, Mikey Scheriger with six, Tyran Perry with two, and Kaden Watkins with one point.

The Tigers return to district play Friday as they host Santa Anna.
