The Early Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, was honored to host a Ribbon Cutting for the Hendrick Walker Cancer Center to celebrate the completion of its extensive renovations and upgrades on Thursday, January 30th! Attendees had the opportunity to tour the newly enhanced facility, network, and enjoy refreshments during the Open House.
Committed to serving Abilene and the Big Country, the Hendrick Walker Cancer Center strives to enhance the well-being of cancer patients, survivors, and their families. With a focus on compassionate care, the center provides advanced medical treatment, education, prevention, and research to support patients throughout their journey.
Renovations began in mid-September 2023 and were fully completed in early January 2025, ensuring patients have access to prevention, treatment, financial support, education, and rehabilitation—all close to home. In addition to meeting oncology needs, the center also provides hematology services.
A key upgrade to the center includes the installation of the True Beam Linear Accelerator, a cutting-edge radiation therapy system designed for precision, speed, and patient comfort. This advanced technology delivers highly targeted radiation doses to cancerous tumors while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. The True Beam system features real-time imaging, motion management, and adaptive radiotherapy, allowing for more effective treatment with fewer side effects. Its shorter treatment times and enhanced accuracy make it one of the most advanced radiation therapy options available, providing patients with high-quality care close to home.
As the only facility within an 80-mile radius offering both Radiation and Medical Oncology, the Walker Cancer Center provides:
-Clinical Research Trials
-Health Screenings
-Infusion Clinic
-Medical Oncology
-On-Site Pharmacy
-Outreach Clinics
-Palliative Care
-Radiation Oncology
-Patient Navigation to Survivorship
-Annual Survivor’s Day Celebrations
We are honored to celebrate this milestone with Hendrick Walker Cancer Center and appreciate their commitment to serving our community!
