Construction continued Friday morning on the new Student Activity Center on the campus of Brownwood High School. Lions head football coach Sammy Burnett recently stated on the Brownwood Lions Coach’s Show on KOXE that completion of the facility is anticipated to be August of this year.

The Student Activity is being built as a result of the near $60 million Brownwood ISD bond that was passed by votes in May 2023.

Among the highlights of the SAC are:

  • The artificial turf indoor field will be a full 100 yards, with two end zones on either side, longer than originally anticipated
  • The field will include a sideline area for band set up and additional training exercises
  • The sideline area will also include a space to run 50-meter sprints
  • The entrance to the SAC will feature a corridor with male and female restrooms with three toilets each, along with additional storage space
  • Tiles will be added to the walls of the corridor to keep it protected
  • A stairway on the exterior of the building will lead to a raised platform inside overlooking the turf field
  • Translucent panels, in place of windows, will be included along the upper portion of the SAC to allow in light

Waldrop Construction is the Construction Manager At Risk for the Student Activity Center.

Construction at the baseball and softball fields is near completion with the start of the regular season just weeks away, while renovation work at Gordon Wood Stadium is ongoing as well. Those improvements are also included as part of the BISD bond.
