HOOPS ROUNDUP: May, Zephyr boys lock up district titles

May Tigers 52, Sidney 32

MAY – The TABC Class A No. 16 May Tigers secured the District 21-1A boys basketball championship with a 52-32 home victory over Sidney Friday.

May (25-2, 10-0) trailed 10-8 after one quarter, grabbed a 22-18 lead at halftime and stretched the advantage to 38-24 heading into the fourth period.

Scoring for the Tigers were Ben Harrell with 15 points, Kobey Morris with 10, Brody Stice with nine, and Jackson Lusk, JD White and Kaden Watkins with six points apiece.

May will battle Poolville in non-district action Tuesday at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Zephyr Bulldogs 79, Brookesmith Mustangs 47

BROOKESMITH – The Zephyr Bulldogs captured the District 25-1A boys basketball championship with a 79-47 road victory over the Brookesmith Mustangs Friday night.

Zephyr led 26-9 after one period, 43-25 at halftime, and 59-33 heading to the fourth quarter.

Spencer Marwitz scored a team-high 18 points for the Bulldogs followed by Cooper Walls with 15, Reese Hamm with 14, Ethan Byers with 11, Wyatt Stevens with nine,  CJ Byers with eight, and Hunter Davidson with four points.

The Bulldogs (18-10, 10-0) are off until Friday when they host Richland Springs.

May Lady Tigers 84, Sidney 10

MAY – The District 21-1A champion May Lady Tigers ran the table in league play and logged their 17th win in a row overall, 84-10 over Sidney, Friday night.

May (19-8, 12-0) led 21-4 after one period, 37-4 at halftime, and 61-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

Scoring for May were Kenlyn King with 21 points, Jordyn Gerhardt with 17, Chloe Lord with 15, Summer Hicks with nine, Mia Musick with eight, Bekah Roberts, McKenna Landes and Cortney Harper with four each, and Aubree Gerhardt with two points.

The Lady Tigers will face Zephyr in a non-district contest Tuesday.

Tolar 43, Early Lady Horns 32

EARLY – Despite suffering a second straight District 8-3A loss, 43-32 to Tolar here Friday night, the Early Lady Horns are headed to the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Early will face Vernon at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 in Graham.

Against Tolar, Gabby Benson scored 11 points for Early followed by seven from Aliyah Harlan, six from Avery Williams, and two points each from Pearl Sharp, Andie Simpson and Kailyn Gallardo.

The Lady Horns wrap up the regular season at Dublin Tuesday.
