Barbara Dabney Milam 83, of Blanket, Texas, was called home to heaven on Friday, January 24, 2025. A visitation with family will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Blanket Cemetery.
Barbara was born October 10, 1941, in Longview Texas to Maxine and Earl Dabney. Barbara graduated from Blanket high school in 1959. Barbara was a stellar athlete in High school lettering in basketball and garnering many write-ups in the newspaper for her skills on the court. After graduation she was accepted to attend the University of Texas at Austin. Barbara chose to forgo college and married Kay Milam on July 30, 1960.
Barbara worked as a secretary at GTE in Texarkana until motherhood called in 1966. She would return to work in the 80’s first working in the office at Glenmore Elementary and later running the Aylor Pools location in San Angelo and helping the location in Midland. Barbara loved to work, and she was a valued team member wherever she went.
Barbara lived in San Angelo, Texas, until retirement. After retiring, Barbara returned to her beloved community in Blanket, Texas where she had many cherished friends and family. Barbara was treasurer for the Blanket Lions Club and devoted many hours in service there. She was also active in the church in Blanket, sharing her love for children through service to Christ as a children’s bible study teacher.
Barbara loved to work on many craft projects and little improvements to the “Big house on the hill” her family home which she loved.
Barbara is survived by son Earl and wife Jackie Milam of Temple, grandson Jeremy Milam of Temple, granddaughter Ashley Milam Wehunt and great grandchildren Clifford and Elliot Wehunt of Watkinsville, Georgia. She is also survived by son Steven and wife Melissa of San Angelo and grandson Zachery Milam of Genoa Illinois.
Barbara was preceded in death by parents Maxine and Earl Dabney, and husband Kay Milam.
