City of Early hosting free fly-fishing workshops

The City of Early is excited to announce a partnership with Inland Fisheries Abilene District -Texas Parks & Wildlife to offer a free Fly-Fishing Instructor Workshop and an Intro to Fly-Fishing Clinic.

These events are designed for individuals interested in learning how to fly fish and those wanting to teach these skills in their communities and schools.

Fly Fishing Instructor Workshop

Date: Friday, February 28, 2025

Time: 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Optional Fly Tying: 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM

Location: Early Visitors & Events Center

Address: 419 Garmon Dr, Early, TX

This workshop is open to anyone aged 18 and older. This workshop is geared toward experienced fly fishers; participants are encouraged to bring their fly rod and reel with a complete line setup for use during the session. After certification, instructors will have access to a comprehensive curriculum, equipment (where available), and ongoing support to help introduce fishing to their communities. Teachers can also earn TEA-approved Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.

Basic Fly-Fishing Class

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025

Time: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Location: City of Early (Exact location will be shared upon registration)

This engaging, hands-on workshop is ideal for beginners or those looking to improve their skills. It is suitable for adults and youth ages 10 and up (an adult must accompany the youth; no drop-offs are permitted). The curriculum will cover essential topics, including equipment, fly casting, flies, knots, regulations, fish identification, safety, ethics, and fishing techniques. All equipment will be provided, or participants can bring their own.

These workshops are provided free of charge by certified Fly-fishing Angler Education instructors from Texas Parks & Wildlife.
