A graveside funeral service for Roland Hampton, age 89, of Early, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 13, 2025, at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Heartland Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 PM.

Roland passed from this life on Friday, January 10, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Roland was born on April 14, 1935, in Slaton to J.S. and Barnie (White) Hampton.  He graduated from Portales High School and married his high school sweetheart, June Wood, on February 6, 1954, a marriage that lasted 69 years and blessed them with two children, Ronda and Mike.

Roland worked several construction jobs, operating heavy equipment before settling in Brownwood. In Brownwood, Roland started his own conservation service doing all types of dirt work, fertilizer application, and his own farming operation raising crops, hay, and cattle.  Roland enjoyed his family, friends, driving tractors, and raising cattle.  He always tried to inject humor in everything, never missing a chance to pick on and cut up with everyone.  If you didn’t like it, he would just keep on aggravating.

Roland and June were longtime members of Early Methodist Church. He served his community as a member of the Brown County Fair Association Board and the Brown County Ag Extension Committee.

Roland is survived by a daughter, Ronda Toeppich of Early, three grandsons, Judd Toeppich and wife Brandi of Comanche, Wade Hampton of Bangs, and Emmett Hampton of Austin; a great-granddaughter, Myla Toeppich of Comanche; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June Hampton in 2023, a son, Michael Hampton in 2021; two sisters, Garnetta Edwards and Mary Jane Jackson, and four brothers, Charles Hampton, Glen “Jiggs” Hampton, H.P. Hampton, and Douglas Hampton.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Early Methodist Church, 1073 Early Blvd, Early, 76802 or to a favorite charity.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the Hampton family online at heartlandfuneralhome.com
