Nylah Hall (4) scored a team-high seven points for Brownwood (19-8, 1-2), which will attempt to rebound at home at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday against Graham

STEPHENVILLE – Leading by seven points at halftime, the second half proved to be a nightmare for the Brownwood Lady Lions, who dropped their second straight District 6-4A contest at Stephenville, 43-31, Friday afternoon.

The Lady Lions (19-8, 1-2) led 22-15 at the break, but were outscored 14-0 to start the third quarter and mustered a total nine points in the second half.

“To win a basketball game you have to put four quarters together and that disappeared after halftime,” said Lady Lions head coach Heather Hohertz. “That’s a mental mindset and something we talked about before the game, and after Glen Rose, was to be a championship team you have to be mentally strong and that’s what making layups is about, mental focus. Then they got physical with us in the second half and we weren’t ready to respond to that.”

Brownwood led 9-4 after one quarter and 22-15 at halftime, but faced a 31-26 deficit heading into the final stanza as the Lady Lions shot 31 percent (12 of 38), but only 12 percent (1 of 8) on three-pointers, and 60 percent (6 of 10) at the free throw line.

The Lady Lions also committed 17 turnovers and pulled down only 24 rebounds.

Nylah Hall led Brownwood with seven points followed by Icess Hall and Trinity Roberts with six apiece, Jade Morin with five, Lanie Johnson with four, and Hannah Deen with three points.

Stephenville (13-13, 2-1) received 14 points from Brinley Hall and 12 from Lucy Espinoza.

The Lady Lions will attempt to snap their two-game skid and even their District 6-4A record as they host Graham (9-13, 0-2) at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
