The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Tuesday:

On Monday, December 30, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Brownwood Police Department was contacted by medical staff at Hendrick Medical Center – Brownwood regarding an injured child. An unresponsive 10-month-old child was brought to the ER by her mother, and upon examination, a serious head injury was discovered. Lifesaving measures, including CPR, were performed until the infant was stabilized and flown to Cooks Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth for greater care.

As officers interviewed the ER staff, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division were contacted by Child Protective Services regarding the same incident.  An ‘Injury to a Child’ investigation was begun.

Detectives James Wells and Peyton Donahoo traveled to a south Brownwood residence where they met with the infant’s mother and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Steven Wayne Peacock Jr. of Brownwood.

Peacock agreed to speak with the detectives at the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center. During the interview, Peacock made statements admitting to his role in physically abusing the infant. After the interview, Peacock was arrested for Injury to a Child along with two Brownwood Municipal Court warrants.

Child Protective Services continued their work with the family and police and at approximately 1:45 p.m, three other children, younger than 10 years of age, were removed from the home.

This remains an active investigation.
