HOOPS ROUNDUP: May, Zephyr teams sweep district foes; Early girls, Bangs and Blanket boys also tally wins

Early Lady Horns 51, Breckenridge 15

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns improved to 3-1 in District 8-3A action and 10-9 on the season with a 51-15 home victory over Breckenridge Friday.

The Lady Horns received 13 points from Aliyah Harlan, 11 from Gabby Benson, nine from Jaime Vassar and six points apiece from Andie Simpson and Avery Williams.

Early’s next game is at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Brownwood Coliseum against Hamilton to start the TexasBank Holiday Classic.

May Tigers 68, Rising Star 21

MAY – The TABC Class A No. 15 May Tigers kicked off District 21-A action with a 68-21 home victory over Rising Star Friday.

The Tigers (13-1, 1-0), who won their 12th game in a row, led 25-2 after one quarter, 33-7 at halftime, and 58-14 heading to the fourth period.

Kobey Morris scored 21 points to pace May followed by 13 from Jackson Lusk, nine from Mikey Scheriger, seven each from Brody Stice and Ben Harrell, five from Tyran Perry, and three points apiece from Wyatt Hardy and JD White.

The next game for May is against the Brownwood JV at 10:40 a.m Thursday at the Brownwood Middle School to open the TexasBank Holiday Classic.

May Lady Tigers 86, Rising Star 6

MAY – The May Lady Tigers improved to 3-0 in District 21-A action with their eighth straight win overall, 86-6 over Rising Star Friday.

The Lady Tigers (10-8 overall) were in front 23-2 after one period, 46-5 at halftime, and 66-5 through three quarters.

Mia Musick ignited May’s attack with 24 points trailed by 19 from Chloe Lord, 17 from Jordyn Gerhardt, 16 from Kenlyn King, six from McKenna Landes and four points from Aubree Gerhardt.

The next game for the Lady Tigers is Tuesday, Dec. 31 at noon at District 21-A rival Gustine.

Blanket Tigers 59, Santa Anna 27

SANTA ANNA – The Blanket Tigers opened District 21-A basketball action with a 59-27 road victory over Santa Anna Friday.

Blanket (11-3, 1-0) jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter that grew to 33-7 at halftime and increased to 45-15 through three periods.

Mason Beck scored 26 points to spark the Blanket offense followed by 10 from Dallas Shumaker, eight from Kannon Kensing, six from Camden Sledge, five from Cameron Aultman, and two apiece from Karter Keel and Kade Russell.

The Tigers are off until Friday, Jan. 3 when they resume district action at home against Rising Star.

Zephyr Bulldogs 53, Lometa 42

LOMETA – The Zephyr Bulldogs notched their second District 25-A victory in as many outings Friday with a 53-42 road triumph over Lometa.

The Bulldogs (6-7, 2-0) led 17-9 after one period, 24-22 at halftime, and 35-26 heading into the fourth quarter.

Reese Hamm led the Bulldogs with 14 points along with eight each from Wyatt Stevens and Spencer Marwitz, seven apiece from Ethan Byers and CJ Byers, four from Bauer Blair, three from Cooper Walls, and two points from Hunter Davidson.

The next action for Zephyr is 8 a.m. Thursday against Lingleville at the Brownwood Middle School in its TexasBank Holiday Classic opener.
