Well, here we go with this week’s column. This week is going to be predetermined. I’m going to list for you the ones who will play for the State Championships right now. There is no winner, no loser, anything like that. I’m just going to list the two teams playing for the State Championship and let that be it. If you need more than that, you can watch on television.

First off, Six Man Football and the Six Man State Championship games are going to be played on Wednesday. Two games will be played Wednesday and they will be Whiteface and Gordon in D1 and in D2, Jayton and Oakwood. That’s it. I mean that’s it. I’m not sure I’ve heard of any of them. The two teams that normally, well, let’s put it this way, Richland Springs will not be in it and they were heavily favored to do so. So. D1 is Whiteface and Gordon and D2 is Jayton and Oakwood. Congrats to one of them.

In 2A-D2, it’s going to be Shiner and Muenster and they will be playing this week in Arlington on Wednesday to determine the Champion.

In 2A-D1 will be Ganado and Stamford. Ganado and Stamford will compete for the 2A-D1 title. Now, Stamford has been there several times, three maybe four times. Coach Wood took that team to the State Championship back in the 50’s and Shiner has been there many, many times. They possibly could do it again.

Now 3A-D1 will be Columbus and Malakoff. Columbus beat Edna and Malakoff beat Paradise and I don’t know anything about those two.

3A-D2, Gunter beat Wall by ten and Woodville beat Tidehaven by seven so, you’ve got Gunter against Woodville. I was a little disappointed Wall didn’t win. They lost twice this year, in the State Semifinals and the season opener against Brownwood.

Now let’s go to 4A. In 4A-D2 football Carthage beat Brock and in La Vega beat Wimberly so Carthage is in and La Vega is in. That should be a heck of a ballgame! I think that’s on Friday if I’m not badly mistaken.

In 4A-D1 Celina beat West Plains and Kilgore beat La Vernia and I’m telling you West Plains almost made it all the way. That’s the team that eliminated us and by the same token eliminated Stephenville. West Plains, who has most of their players back next year, will probably be a force in 4A-D1.

So, that’s 4A-D1 and playing alongside 4A-D2 on Friday. One goes first and that’s tremendous, Celina and Kilgore. Then the other one will be a battle between Carthage and La Vega. I’d play money to watch those two. Two great games!

5A-D1 Highland Park out for another State Championship and they are battling Smithson Valley on Saturday.

5A-D2 South Oak Cliff against Randle. Argyle falls and so does Boerne so that leaves South Oak Cliff against Randle.

6A-D2 is Southlake Carroll against Summer Creek. It will be a good ballgame.

The final one we have is 6A-D1 and will be North Crowley that used to be in Brownwood’s District, against Westlake and that will be it for D1 State Championship. That will fall on Saturday night.

That’s it. All of the ballgames, all of them and not trying to pick a winner. I just wanted to make sure you know who’s playing and when.

Until next time, so long everybody.
