Birtie May Powell

Birtie May Powell, 83, of Brownwood passed peacefully surrounded by her family on December 1, 2024, at Songbird Lodge Nursing and Rehab in Brownwood, Texas.

She was born October 20, 1941, in Gatesville, Texas to Edgar Roy and Annie Lee Jackson, she spent the majority of her working career in food service. Birtie also worked in construction for many years. She loved her game shows, going to bingo and visiting with family. Birtie married the one whom her soul loved, Johnny, on March 27, 1957. Birtie was loved by all that ever had the pleasure of meeting her.

Birtie is survived by sons, Johnny Powell, Jr of Early, Roy Powell of Cedar Creek, Tommy Powell of Abilene, Larry Powell and wife Trini of Cleveland, Texas and one daughter Janette Waddle and husband Harold of May. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. One sister, and her best friend Shirley Powell of Brownwood, and one brother Larry Jackson and wife Debbie of Brownwood, one sister-in-law Sharon Jackson, one very special nephew Curtis Powell and wife Amanda of Brownwood, and one very special niece Kimberly and husband Walter of San Saba, as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Birtie is preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Annie Jackson, her husband Johnny Powell Sr, four brothers, Edgar Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Alvin Jackson and Donald Jackson. A daughter in law Cathy Powell, and two sons Donald Powell, and Rodger Powell.

A Graveside Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, Texas.
