Seven members of the Brownwood Lionettes drill team will be taking part in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City Thursday morning.

Seniors Kamilia Ramos, Ella Locker, Rylee Land and Mina Foster, along with juniors Rachel Smith, Kailee Bessent and Nixon Johnson, will part be of the Spirit of America production that includes a dance team as well as cheerleaders. The Spirit of America Productions Dance performance consists of dancers, ages 14-18 years old, from high schools and studios from across the United States.

The Lionettes qualified to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade based on their performances at the American Dance/Drill Team camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas over the summer.

The Lionettes left for New York this past Friday and, along with the other dancers, will also participate in several activities and tours throughout the week at notable New York City locations like Times Square, The Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall and the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

The most Lionettes to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in a single year was 15 in 2013 followed by 13 in 2015.
