BAIRD – The May Tigers won their basketball season opener Tuesday night, easing past Baird by a 65-30 count.

The Tigers (1-0) led 13-11 after one quarter, 31-18 at halftime, and 46-22 heading into the fourth period.

May received 18 points from Brody Stice, 16 from JD White, 12 from Kobey Morris, seven from Ben Harrell, five from Mikey Scheriger, four from Jackson Lusk, two from Kaden Watkins, and one point from Wyatt Hardy.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Breckenridge at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Newcastle 61, May Lady Tigers 37

NEWCASTLE – The May Lady Tigers slipped to 2-3 on the season with a 61-37 road loss to Newcastle Tuesday night.

May trailed 20-4 after one quarter, 37-10 at halftime, and 52-13 through three periods.

Leading scorers for May were Mia Musick with eight points, Chloe Lord with seven, Kenlyn King with five, Jordyn Gerhardt with three, and Rebekah Roberts and McKenna Landes with two points apiece.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Ballinger at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
