Lang Ray Slayton was born September 28, 1959, in Farmington, New Mexico to GW Slayton and Maria Paulette Hopper. He was the grandson of Tollie Ray Hopper and wife Willie Pauline Jones of Farmington, New Mexico and GJ Slayton and wife Gladys Keeney of Coleman.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday November 16, 2024, at Slayton’s home under the live oak tree. 14350 CR 221 Brookesmith, Texas.

He spent his early life living in Farmington and moved to Early in 1976.  He married Sharon Rachel Brackett in 1979 in Brownwood. Together, they had 2 children: Ray Slayton and Kara Slayton.

Lang was a natural athlete and outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family or hitting the open road on his motorcycle. He was an electrician by trade and worked many years in the IBEW.  Lang was often reserved, at times introspective, but could be the life of the party. He always spoke with a soft voice and considered his words.

Lang loved his family and was blessed to have several lifelong friends.

He is survived by his son Ray Todd and wife Randi (Rice) Slayton of Brookesmith, daughter Kara Leigh Shae and husband Kyle Kensing of Blanket; grandchildren Tristen Ray Slayton, Landon Todd Slayton, Emma Rene’ Slayton,  Creed Slayton, Gage Slayton, Hyler Hatchett, Kashleigh Kensing, and Kannon Kensing; great granddaughters Chasely and Scout, and great grandson Jensen West; his siblings Lantz Jay Slayton of Early, Stacci Slayton-Hamilton of Coleman and Guy Wayne Slayton and wife Penny of Georgetown; best friend Chris Fairchild of Farmington, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents GW Slayton and Maria Paulette Harper, sisters Lesley Slayton Crabb, Charlene Slayton Goodman and brother James Calvin Slayton, and his best friend Ben Shackleford.
