Bangs drops season finale to playoff-bound Coleman, 31-16

COLEMAN – The playoff-bound Coleman Bluecats handed the Bangs Dragons a season-ending 31-16 loss in District 5-2A Division I football action here Friday night.

Coleman (2-7, 2-2) generated 392 total yards – 221 rushing and 171 passing – with one turnover, while Bangs (2-7, 0-4) manufactured 141 yards – 94 through the air and just 47 on the ground – with with turnover.

For the Bluecats, Blaine Bouldin rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, Anthony Espitia added 59 yards with a trip to the end zone and Paul Salas contributed 28 yard on the ground and scored once.

Hunter Edington completed 12 of 24 passes for 171 yards with two touchdowns – one of 22 yards to Brody Bland, and one of 4 yards to Espitia, who led the Bluecats with four receptions for 54 yards.

Coleman’s defense was sparked by Salas and Cutter Cody with 14 tackles each, Brooks Clippinger with 13 and Easton Meador with 10. Skylar Clark and Darren Hurtado each recorded a sack for the Bluecats.

For the Dragons, Mason Minshew returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, while Aden Jones caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Withers, who completed 7 of 13 passes for 94 yards.

Skylar Minshew led the Dragons with 31 yards on the ground followed by Jones with 10. Cason Tidwell finished with 51 yards receiving on a pair of catches. 

Defensively for Bangs, Tidwell recorded a team-high 13.5 tackles trailed by 7.5 from Jones and 7 from Hunter Crowell. Conner Bible added five tackles and Eliseo Rivas tallied four. 

Next week, Coleman – the third seed from District 5 – will face District 6 runner-up Wolfe City (8-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Godley in Class 2A Division I Region II bi-district action.
