The Texas Department of Public Safety issued the following information on a one-vehicle accident that took that place at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 on County Road 436 in Comanche County, 3.2 miles west of Proctor, that claimed a life.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Polaris Ranger HO900 XP all-terrain vehicle was traveling west on County Road 436. The driver drove south into the barrow ditch and attempted to steer back toward the roadway and the vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side. The driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

The driver, 43-year-old Eric Shane Covey of Dublin, was pronounced dead at the crash location at 2:45 p.m. by Justice of the Peace, Johnny Conine.

The passenger, 28-year-old Deanna Darlene Montgomery of Dublin, suffered non-incapacitating injuries and refused treatment at scene of the crash.

Neither individual was wearing a helmet or seat belt, according to the DPS report.
