The City of Brownwood Downtown Plan has been recognized with the Gold Award in the Economic Development Planning category of the 2024 Texas Planning Awards, presented by the American Planning Association (APA) Texas Chapter.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding planning achievements across the state of Texas. The Brownwood Downtown Plan, a collaborative effort between the City, community stakeholders, and planning experts, outlines a comprehensive vision for further revitalizing the city’s historic 102 block downtown. The plan focuses on strategies to attract new businesses, emphasizing public realm elements such as streetscape design, civic spaces, and sidewalk activation to create a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from the APA Texas Chapter,” said Mayor Stephen Haynes. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our community, city staff, and planning partners. The Downtown Plan represents a significant step forward in our efforts to continue complementing our ongoing downtown revitalization efforts.”

The City of Brownwood is committed to implementing the Downtown Plan and transforming the community’s vision into reality. By fostering economic growth, improving quality of life, and preserving the city’s rich heritage, Brownwood aims to become a model for successful downtown revitalization. By integrating tourism and economic development, the plan enhances the quality of life for locals, meeting a significant request from the city’s largest employers and industries.
