Maurice Turner

Maurice Turner, age 94, of Brownwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024. Family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Sunday, November 2 at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services for Maurice will be held at 2:00PM in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

Maurice was born on August 18, 1930, to Noel and Fonzine Sparks in Searcy, Arkansas. She worked for the California Education System and retired after 27 years of teaching reading, night school, acting as confidential secretary and assistant principal. She married B.Y. Turner on October 17, 1948 and they celebrated 73 years of marriage before his passing in 2022. Maurice loved to sew; she made clothes for her family, and even participated in professional sewing. She also enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting, traveling and camping; she belonged to several camping organizations. She was also involved in numerous clubs and organizations; Maurice was the PTA president, Room Mother, Brownie Leader, member and president of Woman’s Club in Rosamond, California, Brownwood Eastern Star #116, and Coleman Star #360. Along her many hobbies and activities, most of all, Maurice loved being with her family and friends.

Maurice is survived by her two children, Karen Henry, and Nancy Holl; 5 grandchildren, Sunnie Sabol and husband Darrin, Jason Henry, Kristin Gore and husband Michael, Dustin Henry and wife Nelly, and Aaron Allred and wife Tammy; 8 great grandchildren, Brandon and Alexis Sabol, Kourtney, Kambri, and Kynzlee Gore, Dylan Henry, Kristan Ward, and Carly Allred; brother, John Sparks; and sister, Ethel Bahl. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Maurice was preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Fonzine Sparks; brother, Delbert Sparks; sisters, Martha Metherell and Blanche Dunlap; brothers-in-law, Gene Metherell, Tom Dunlap, and George Bahl; and sister-in-law, Nelly Sparks.
